Manchester United have released a passionate message to their supporters following Wednesday night's Europa League final defeat against Tottenham Hotspur. It's a result that all but ends United's season, with the Red Devils confirmed to be missing out on continental competition altogether next season.
Despite boasting close to three-quarters of the possession, United mustered just six shots on target throughout the entire match, with Spurs having opened the scoring late in the first half. The goal itself, a bundled home effort from Brennan Johnson, was indicative of United's season as a whole: scrappy, haphazard and entirely preventable.
United, under the stewardship of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group, now face a decisive summer transfer window as they look to negotiate the market without the financial bonuses of Champions League football. Regardless, the United social media account has insisted the 20-time English champions will return to Europe's top table one day in the near future.
Writing on X, the official United account posted: "It hurts now but this club's history speaks for itself. We will be back," coupled with a selection of images showing dejected United players. Leny Yoro, Casemiro and captain Bruno Fernandes are among the United players pictured looking deflated following the loss.
