Ruben Amorim cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines as he watched Manchester United lose the Europa League final.
Since being appointed head coach, Ruben Amorim has been starved of joyful moments at Manchester United.
That continued on Wednesday night as Tottenham beat United 1-0 in the Europa League final. A toothless performance summed up what has been a truly miserable season.
Amorim was let down by his players in the final, with several stars underperforming in Bilbao. Casemiro didn’t turn up despite being tipped to shine as United’s most experienced player.
But there was one player in Bilbao who was so disappointing that he may have sealed his fate this summer.

Ruben Amorim wanted to replace Andre Onana at Man United
On the route to the final, Andre Onana was dropped by Amorim after making a string of mistakes against Lyon.
The £43 million goalkeeper eventually worked his way back into the side and was never a doubt to start in the final against Tottenham.
However, that might not have been the case if Amorim’s wish came true in January. According to reports, Amorim told Ineos he wants two goalkeepers added to his squad after being underwhelmed by Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

Amorim wants to replace Onana, and the 29-year-old’s performance in the final certainly won’t help him keep hold of his future at Old Trafford.
While Onana starred in the Champions League final for Inter Milan, he dropped a clanger in Bilbao.

United dominated possession in Spain and Onana is relied on by Amorim to help build up play and get the team ticking.
However, Onana did anything but that with his performance. Data provided by Sofascore proves that Onana was not only wasteful in possession, but also that he had no impact in terms of shot-stopping.

He made one punch from a Spurs corner in the first half, but other than that he was simply a bystander as United suffered defeat.
With the ball at his feet, Onana was no better with only one accurate long ball out of his 10 attempts. A truly alarming performance.
