UEFA have issued an apology to Tottenham stars after failing to provide enough winners’ medals after their Europa League triumph.
Following Spurs' victory over Manchester United in Bilbao, captain Son Heung-min, midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur and defender Cristian Romero were left without medals during the ceremony.
UEFA have released a statement saying: "To our great displeasure, we did not have enough medals available on stage during the trophy ceremony presentation due to an unexpected discrepancy in the player count, as more team members - including injured players - participated in the ceremony than initially anticipated.
"The missing medals were promptly delivered to the winning team in the dressing room, along with our sincerest apologies for the oversight."
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin presented players with medals ahead of the trophy lift, but he was seen giving concerned glances to fellow officials as he ran out of medals when the final Spurs players approached.
He could only greet the three Tottenham players with hugs before they all walked past him without a medal.
Under UEFA's competition rules for the Europa League, both winning and runners-up teams are presented with 50 medals each. Those medals can be awarded to players and staff with no requirement over the number of appearances in the competition.
However, UEFA are said to have only informed clubs that 30 medals would be presented on stage to players from each side. The remaining 20 would then be given to the club after the ceremony to distribute.
