On Wednesday, Kicker reported Bayern Munich fear Liverpool can beat them in the race for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz in the summer window.
Barcelona are closely monitoring the Reds’ pursuit of the 22-year-old, according to Sport.
The La Liga club have identified Liverpool’s Luis Díaz as the main target to improve their attack. Their chances of securing his services will increase if Liverpool win the battle for the Germany international.
Wirtz favoured Bayern Munich until the Premier League winners entered the scene. Sport state Arne Slot’s side have presented an ‘astronomical offer’ to beat the Bavarian club.
The German media reported the Bayer Leverkusen star’s meeting with the Merseyside club in England. Sport add he’s also received an offer from Liverpool and it’s currently the ‘highest on the table’.
Bayer Leverkusen prefer their player to join Liverpool over their league rival. He will make the final decision on his future in the next 10 days.
The operation will cost Liverpool around €110m and they plan to raise funds by selling the 28-year-old Colombia international and Darwin Núñez.
The Reds will look for an alternative if they fail to sign Wirtz. This gives the Catalan club optimism to bring the South American to the Camp Nou.
Sport state Díaz’s renewal has stalled and is keen to join Barcelona if the clubs were to find an agreement. Liverpool have set at €85m price tag but Barca believe the fee can be lowered.
