Morning all.
Last night’s Europa League Final might have been between two clubs who have been little short of dire in the Premier League but for Totts, they’ve got their hands on a trophy after a 17 year wait. I didn’t watch the game, why on earth would I? Apparently, it wasn’t the best game European football has produced although I doubt anyone on the white side of north London cares. Well done to them I say.
A good friend of mine and her husband are Totts fans so this morning I did the decent thing and passed on my congratulations – the reply I got was hilarious: “yes we’re pleased but we still have a s\*\*t manager and the team isn’t much better either”.
We all want to see Arsenal win trophies, of course we do but weirdly, I’m not at all envious of last nights winners. I’d rather see Arsenal win the League Cup than a European Cup which let’s be fair, hardly had the best of clubs in it this season because of the new Champions League format.
When you consider the two clubs battling for a place in the Champions League next season are currently sat in the two places above the relegation zone, something isn’t quite as it should be.
Anyway, with all that out of the way, let’s look forward to next season. After all, what’s the point in dwelling on might have been. Moaning won’t turn us into league champions or Champions League winners either but a strong summer transfer window might in the season or seasons to come.
A deeper and stronger squad will help Mikel Arteta that’s for sure because think about it, if you and I hoped not to see Sterling, Zinchenko, Neto etc on the pitch then why would we expect Arteta to pick them. That’s the key for next season in my opinion, having better players throughout the squad.
Unlike Totts, we do have a very good manager but of course, there’s always room for improvement and he’ll know that better than anyone. I don’t think we’re back to the days of Champions League qualification will do, not at all because I think Arteta would rather go elsewhere than just drift along securing top four. One can hear the passion to win in his voice, his anger when the officials treat us differently to other clubs, he wants our club to be successful and that means, winning trophies.
Of course we all have an opinion on the football, rotation etc etc but hindsight is a wonderful thing. Typing away on a keyboard is easy too yet I know it’s just frustration. Thankfully, on here, our moans and groans are polite. Lol
We still have one fixture left to play on Sunday against Southampton and Man City still need to overturn an 8 goal difference to knock us off second place but I can’t see that happening. Whilst a second place finish is nothing to celebrate, I’d rather Arsenal finish second and reach a Champions League semi-final than finish seventeenth with a Mickey Mouse Trophy in the cabinet.
