The Premier League was won at a canter by Liverpool this season as the Reds dominated the competition.
Heading into the 2024/25 campaign, this was far from expected as many thought Arne Slot would have a very tough job on his hands coming in after the legendary Jurgen Klopp.
That did not prove to be the case as Liverpool won the Premier League and sit top of the standings with a 12-point lead over Arsenal, despite taking their foot off the gas in recent weeks.
Slot deserves all the credit for Liverpool’s success, however, the decline of Man City and Arsenal’s failure to put up a strong challenge did have a role to play.
The Dutch coach has now been reflecting on the 2024/25 campaign, and the Reds boss still believes City are a good team, sharing the moment he realised this.

Man City’s ball possession vs Liverpool impressed Arne Slot
Slot was surprised Man City were not in contention for the Premier League title when Liverpool played the Manchester club for the second time this season back in February, with the Reds securing a 2-0 win over Pep Guardiola’s team.
That was the moment many fans of the Merseyside club believed they were going to win the league, but it was also a match that showed Slot that Man City were still a good team.
“That tells you how hard we had to work, and it also tells you how good City still are. If you can play against us and still have so much ball possession, then you are a very good team,” Slot told The Athletic when reflecting on Liverpool’s season.
“Everybody felt in that game that if we could bring that win over the line, then we would be getting very, very close (to winning the title).”
Slot has not felt sorry for Guardiola this season, as the Spanish coach has had success in the past, which has not been the case for many other managers.
The Liverpool boss is not stupid and will expect the legendary coach to bounce back next season with the goal of winning their title back from the current Premier League champions.

What Liverpool expect from Man City next season
Behind the scenes, Liverpool expect Man City to bounce back next season after failing to challenge the Reds for the Premier League title during the 24/25 campaign.
This summer is a huge one for the Manchester club as Guardiola plans to add four or five new faces to his squad as the Spaniard looks to revamp his team, with his midfield being the biggest concern.
Morgan Gibbs-White is one of Man City’s top targets, while AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders is a player City are looking to add to their number eight options.
It remains to be seen if Guardiola can get his team back to challenging for the big trophies, as there have been some worrying signs throughout the current campaign. Nevertheless, it would be silly to doubt the legendary coach after all he has achieved in the sport.
