Insider issues update on Newcastle's youth squad and emerging wunderkinds

[Newcastle United](https://cominghomenewcastle.sbnation.com)’s under-21 squad remains in training despite the end of their competitive season, with several prospects mirroring the first team’s schedule to support Eddie Howe’s squad.

According to [The Athletic’s Chris Waugh](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6349238/2025/05/13/inside-newcastle-united-transfers-miley-stadium/), two names have emerged as the most closely integrated into the senior setup: 17-year-old forward Sean Neave and 18-year-old full-back Leo Shahar.

Both have been training full-time with the first team since February and have appeared in matchday squads. Neave, despite not yet making a first-team appearance, was awarded a Carabao Cup winners’ medal.

Trevan Sanusi, an 18-year-old winger who made his debut off the bench against Bromley in January, had been involved with first-team training before injury curtailed his involvement. He has since returned to under-21 sessions and, like Neave and Shahar, will be evaluated during pre-season.

Aussie prodigy Garang Kuol has also shown strong form since returning from injury, contributing five goals and four assists in 10 Premier League 2 appearances. The 20-year-old, whose previous loans at Hearts and Volendam were less successful, may go out on loan again next season if he does not secure a transfer in the final year of his deal. A contract extension remains on the table.

Finally, the promising Alfie Harrison, a 19-year-old attacking midfielder, impressed with three goals and seven assists in 20 PL2 appearances. However, with no clear first-team pathway as a traditional No. 10 under Howe’s system, a loan move is considered the next logical step in his development.
