West Ham fans watched on in agony as rivals Tottenham ended their 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League.

The Hammers have endured a miserable season as they sit 15th in the Premier League table, and while they are above Tottenham in the league, they have had the last laugh.

West Ham did win the Europa Conference League two years ago, but Spurs have now gone one step better and won the Europa League, a competition in which the Hammers reached the quarter-finals three years ago.

Presenter Jeff Stelling has now revealed that one famous West Ham fan has had a lot to say about Tottenham after their victory, and he has backed his club despite the misery after the game in Bilbao.

Stelling reveals Thomas Skinner texts after Tottenham win

Stelling has revealed that famous West Ham fan Thomas Skinner, formerly of The Apprentice, had some choice words after Spurs beat Manchester United.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Skinner is an outspoken West Ham fan, and he has now admitted his frustration that their rivals won, with Stelling reading his messages out on talkSPORT (22 May, 6.34am).

Premier League table Games played Points

15. West Ham 37 40

16. Man United 37 39

17. Tottenham 37 38

“We’re never going to hear the end of this from Spurs fans are we?” Skinner claimed.

“My phone is full of texts from all my Tottenham mates. West Ham are still the absolute governors, and we’re going to finish above Spurs this season. Bosh!”

West Ham need to improve next season

While West Ham could still finish above Spurs this season, this means little in the wider context of such a poor campaign, and improvements are needed.

Although Tottenham are lower in the table, they have a trophy to their name and Champions League football next season, two things which West Ham and the other teams around them do not.

West Ham cannot afford another disastrous season like this one, and Graham Potter will be under pressure from the very start as he aims to turn their fortunes around.

Spurs and West Ham have had an intense rivalry over the years, and winning the next London derby clash between the two sides will go down well with supporters no matter what form they are in.
