Man Utd should sack Amorim and hire 'one of Europe's best managers', he's available now [view]

Manchester United will end the season trophyless and in the bottom seven of the Premier League table after their loss in the Europa League final on Wednesday evening - and that should be enough to see Ruben Amorim lose his job after a treacherous second half of the campaign.

Amorim's side have only registered 24 points in 26 games in the Premier League since his arrival in mid-November, a worse points-per-game record than his predecessor Erik ten Hag, who was sacked after a perceived poor start to the campaign. But although the Dutchman was only six points outside the top five when he was sacked, that gap is now 27 points - and improvement is needed at Old Trafford.

Man Utd Should Sack Ruben Amorim in Favour of Max Allegri

Amorim's argument is likely to be that he needs the summer transfer window to shape his own team, but a record of less than a point per game alongside crashing out of the domestic cups before the semi-final stage is not good enough - and attention could turn to Massimiliano Allegri.

The 57-year-old is currently out of a job after his second spell at Juventus, where he was sacked despite winning the Coppa Italia in his final game. Allegri's overall record in Turin stands at 420 games, with 271 of those being wins and just 72 games being losses, and so the Old Lady enjoyed a vast period of success under his tutelage, winning five Serie A titles, five Coppa Italia trophies, and they featured in two Champions League finals before defeat at the final stage.

That amount of success is a far cry from where United are at present. The Old Trafford club have won trophies in their previous two seasons, when disregarding this year's campaign, but wins in the FA Cup and League Cup have been masked by shocking league finishes, breaking their worst-ever Premier League record of eighth last season before demolishing it this year with a first-ever bottom half placing.

Allegri has never overseen such a poor record, having worked his way up from the lower leagues to top clubs in AC Milan and Juventus - and having been described as 'one of the best managers in Europe' by former Bianconeri striker Mario Mandzukic, it paints the picture of how good he is as a manager.

The Italian gaffer has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past, and so it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see him at Old Trafford. He began his Juventus stint with a three-back formation, initially continuing the progress from Antonio Conte's spell as boss, before switching to a back four whenever suitable - and in a bid to continue with Amorim's tactics to slowly ease United into how he wants to play, Allegri would be able to mould the club into how he wants to play.

Perhaps sacking Amorim would be harsh, but his record of just 15 wins in 41 games in all competitions is not something that will be looked favourably on - and although their focus has been on Europe, their league form has shown that he can't continue in the manner that he has.
