Manchester United transfer target Viktor Gyokeres has provided a fresh admission over his future at Sporting CP ahead of the summer transfer window.

The striker is expected to leave Portugal once the 2024/25 season comes to an end. Gyokeres helped Sporting retain their Liga Portugal title last weekend and he could play his final match for the club this weekend.

United and Arsenal are the two teams tracking the Sweden international. A reunion with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford has been tipped since January but United's Europa League final loss to Tottenham has squandered any hopes of that.

This weekend, Gyokeres and Sporting will face arch-rivals Benfica in the Taca de Portugal final looking to seal a double this season. Speaking ahead of the game to TV channel SIC Noticias, Gyokere was asked what the future holds in the summer.

"Hopefully you can expect I keep improving and score goals," he said. Pressed if he'd be staying in Lisbon, he added: "We'll see. It's the future. Football is like that, you never know what's going to happen.

"As we saw this season, you never know what's going to happen. And it's the same thing now. We'll see what the future holds."

United's defeat in Bilbao has sparked doubts over their willingness to spend the money on Gyokeres. Arsenal are now the favourites to land the former Coventry City star with newly-appointed sporting director Andrea Berta identifying him as their priority target.

It's understood that there is a gentleman's agreement in place between Gyokeres and Sporting CP that will enable the striker to leave for around £55m and £60m, a fee significantly less than the £84.3m release clause.

Matheus Cunha is expected to become United's first summer signing and a centre-forward is expected to follow. Liam Delap, who has a £30million release clause at Ipswich, has been linked after scoring 12 Premier League goals this season.
