Leicester City sent brutal message amid Russell Martin manager ‘talks’ and Ruud van Nistelrooy…

Russell Martin for Leicester City manager? Well not if you are a fan of the ailing club it seems.

Supporters of the relegated Foxes have made their views clear amid reports that the former Southampton boss is having talks about replacing Ruud van Nistelrooy in the Leicester City hot seat.

Admittedly, van Nistelrooy has overseen a wretched time at the King Power Stadium, setting unwanted records and only seeing an upturn in form since relegation was confirmed by defeat to Liverpool on April 20.

But it seems some supporters would rather the Dutchman remain in charge than see Martin, who was sacked by Southampton in December with the club already on course for a rapid return to the Championship, take over.

And they took to social media and commented on reports concerning a Martin appointment to make their views clear. Here is just a sample of what some of them are saying...

FoxFreak: If true (and I sincerely hope it's not), this is grossly disrespectful to RvN. He should never have been appointed in the first place. He was miles out of his depth, but he did his best after being handed one of the most poisoned chalices ever.

If RvN does go, we don't need a tippy tappy failure. We need someone who will develop a system to suit the players he has available, not drop a system on them which may well suit some but not others. And he absolutely has to bring on the Academy players - not least because in our financial state there's probably no alternative.

Sonofratae: Unbelievable if this is true. We put nine goals on Southampton two years ago and beat them again this season. Martin got the sack because he hadn’t got a plan B. I see trouble ahead.

Icebee: These comments paint a serious disconnect between fans and current board. Yet again, no dialogue with official fan bases, more behind-closed-doors decisions and a put up and shut up attitude when questioned. Disappointing.

DF: What is the board not seeing that nearly every fan at the club can see. Apart from slow, laborious passing out from the back, it is just a poor replication of Pep-style football.

The stats don't lie - 14 defeats from 16 and one win in that entire period. That would have led to the worst points total in PL history if he had carried on all season.

Martin fared no better against us - losing 4-1 at home and 5-0 away last season, then 2-3 at St Mary’s this term, The stats don't lie - this is a massive blunder once again by the board if this speculation is true, which it seems to be.

Bluesky145: If they appoint Martin it just goes to prove that the people who run this club are determined to alienate the fan base. Sad days.

Honest Johnny: Russell Martin? Seriously? What are the board thinking? Is this a way of bringing Winks and Vestergaard back into the fold? Funny how this has leaked out after the end of sale of season tickets. £5 says he won't be here come the end of 2025.

IanLCFC: Please, NO! System too rigid and it doesn't work in the Prem unless you have the quality of players which LCFC cannot afford, Sean Dyche or Lee Carsley please.

Gregsyboy: Easy on eye style, looks to get forward quicker than Maresca did, but needs to be backed, although the nucleus of a very good 11 is there already.

Hatch63: Danny Rohl (young up and coming German manager) or Lee Carsley (will bring the young players through) for me. Maybe Sean Dyche (Bulldog spirit).

Honestlyspeaking: Shopping at Poundland.

Bluefox16: Meanwhile Southampton are laughing their heads off as we chase their already failed manager and they appoint Will Still… excited about next season anyone?

Lifelongloyal: It is quite possible that relegation would have occurred whoever was team manager, given the constraints. I believe Ruud has the capability to build and lead a fresh squad to success; he surely deserves a chance come the new season.

Chwanobboh: I think there’s been too much negativity around RvN for things to work out going forward. Anything short of being in the top two all season and the knives will be out for him. That being said, I would choose RvN 100 times out of 100 over Martin.
