Vasilije Micic confirms interest from Hapoel Tel Aviv

Vasilije Micic confirmed interest from Hapoel Tel Aviv despite being under contract with the Phoenix Suns.

Despite dismissing rumors linking him to Hapoel Tel Aviv in Serbian media, Phoenix Suns guard Vasilije Micic confirmed to BasketNews that there is interest between the EuroCup champions and former EuroLeague MVP.

"For me, I never talked about that because, first of all, I am under contract. Second of all, I cannot forbid or allow people to talk," he told BasketNews. "I always talk when I do something, when I sign something. That's the moment before that. It's just a rumor. Really, that's really what's going on."

Then, Micic elaborated on the fact that there is contact between the two sides, emphasizing Hapoel's owner Ofer Yannay's ambitions.

"I feel like he [Ofer Yannay] wants to win the EuroLeague right now with his idea to build a great team," the Serbian added. "And that's his right. He's the president of the team or the owner. And I'm still a member of the Phoenix Suns."

"I'm still getting paid by the Phoenix Suns. And next year I have a team option for next year. So, I'm not even allowed to talk or to do anything. We'll see. There is plenty of time, and I'll make it public when it comes to me," Micic added.

Then, we asked, "But there is some interest?"

"There is," Micic replied.

Hapoel owner Ofer Yannay earlier revealed that he's been in talks with Micic for several months.

Micic's current contract is up for a team option worth $8.1 million this offseason. The Serbian guard appeared in just five games for the Suns this past regular season.
