Roy Keane does not hold back with brutal Man Utd assessment after Europa League final loss to Tottenham

Keane was highly critical of Man United as a club after their Europa League defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday night.

It means that Ruben Amorim’s first season at the club ends with his side sat 16th in the Premier League, and without European Football. It is one of the worst seasons in the club’s recent history.

Amorim has said that he would happily leave if the United higher-ups feel that he’s no longer the man, however, defender Luke Shaw came out to defend him, saying that Amorim is the “right man” for United. Their defeat yesterday sparked a lot of criticism.

Roy Keane says Europa League has simply covered the “huge cracks” at United

Following United’s defeat, former Red Devils midfielder Roy Keane was highly critical of the club. He said that the Europa League has been somewhat of a distraction from just how bad things are at the club.

He said: “Just when you think things can't get any worse for Man United. It's been the story all year. They've been getting out of jail with European football and it's been covering the huge cracks at Man United. All season they have been so easy to beat.

“They got lucky a few times in Europe and then tonight again, ultimately it's not good enough. They didn't show enough quality. Not enough options off the bench. If you're depending on Harry Maguire to get you out of jail, you're in trouble.”

United will now go into next season without European football, meaning that Amorim will have to focus solely on improvement in the Premier League to get back into a European competition.

How does United plan to improve in the summer?

The Red Devils will need a big summer transfer window if they are to show results next season. Following Keane’s criticism, it seems that United will likely try to recruit new players in all areas of the pitch.

Wolves’ Matheus Cunha has reportedly already agreed to join Manchester United this summer, as the club will pay his £62.5m release clause to hopefully add more goals after they have been the fifth-lowest-scoring side in the league this season.

The futures of Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro are uncertain too, meaning that United are likely to improve in midfield too. They are linked with Atalanta’s Ederson, but having not qualified for the Champions League, it could be hard for them to get a deal done for him.

Furthermore, they are also set to add another striker after what has been a bad year for both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund. They have been linked to the likes of Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres ahead of the transfer window.
