Manchester United are set for an instant £10million hit in sponsorship revenue following their Europa League final defeat, sources have told Football Insider.

Ruben Amorim’s side were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham after Brennan Johnson grabbed the winner in Bilbao on Wednesday (21 May).

That meant Man United missed out on a place in the Champions League, with Spurs set to play in the competition instead next season.

The final was the Premier League duo’s last opportunity to qualify for European football as United sit 16th in the top-flight table and Tottenham are 17th heading into the last game of the season.

The Manchester giants have signed a new 10-year sponsorship deal with Adidas worth £900million over the lifetime of the contract.

However, under the terms of the agreement, United will now be deducted £10million by the German manufacturer each time they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Man United could face £125m hit

The failure to secure any European football for next season will have a significant impact on the financial situation at Old Trafford.

Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider United could face a £125million swing in revenue after missing out on Europe.

The club sent a letter to fan groups in January warning them they are at risk of breaking the profit and sustainability rules (PSR), with top-flight sides only permitted to make £105million of losses over a rolling three-year period.

United posted a club-record revenue of £661.8million in 2023-24, but they recorded a net loss of £113.2million.

Man United put duo up for sale as new signing ready to head in

Old Trafford chiefs have already been putting plans in place for the summer transfer window as they look to improve their squad.

Football Insider revealed on 20 May United are ready to sell Joshua Zirkzee or Rasmus Hojlund to make way for their top striker target Liam Delap.

The 22-year-old is set to arrive at Old Trafford in a £30million deal, with Amorim’s side in pole position to secure his signature ahead of Chelsea and Everton.

The forward has registered 12 goals and two assists in 39 appearances for Ipswich Town this season.
