Tottenham1-0 Man United: Post-Match Man United Player Ratings

In the Red’s most important game of the season, the Europa League final, a quick start from the United attack later led to sloppy backline defending which proved costly.

Spurs’ goal came just before half time, when Brennan Johnson darted into space to get a flick on the ball which somehow was out of the reach of Andre Onana and into the back of the net.

The Red Devils were undefeated in Europe this season up until the final, but the performance today from United left a lot to be desired. Under the eyes of Sir Alex Ferguson, United underperformed and could not mount anything concrete to bring some light on a lost season.

Silly fouls from United lead to needless yellows and communication was poor between the defenders and the goalkeeper.

Chances were missed, and hesitation was put in place of action, leading to the team faltering regarding the final product.

It is arguable that substitutes were late and that the overall starting eleven lacked the substance to truly test the Aussie-led Spurs side.

The subs were impactful for their time on the pitch, with Joshua Zirkzee dropping in to facilitate and provide that additional pass, while Alejandro Garnacho got a shot on target to rally the United Faithful.

However, Ange Postecoglou read the game and structured a wall of five that disrupted everything The Reds threw at them.

All but the kitchen sink was used to crack Tottenham, and now the bigger questions will need to be asked after the final home game for Manchester United when they play Aston Villa.

Now let's just get to the player ratings, shall we?

**Rasmus Hojlund**-3

There is no doubt in my mind that Hojlund has the makings of a great forward when it comes to drive and physicality.

But in the Ruben Amorim system... it just does not work. We have seen him score, and what a day it is when he does. But when the chips are down and an impact is being begged of him, he leaves those wanting with nothing. He has left his future up to fate, rather than solidifying himself.

**Mason Mount**-4

After a great semi-final, you would only want Mount to keep on trucking ahead and show people why he wears the number seven.

Unfortunately, today he didn't. Great energy when on the ball and a real show of force to make it work for his side, but for the majority of the time, you kind of forget he's on the pitch.

**Amad Diallo**-5

Quick feet, dancing through the lines, putting shots on goal. The usual of what we expect from Amad.

For the final, it was enough of what is usually expected. When you see his name on the starting eleven, you realise that there is a better chance. When you see his name on the bench, you wonder why, but stay hopeful that he will bring some energy when he steps on the pitch.

Maybe it was the Spurs' tactics that phased him out of the game. Pushing him wide and having to receive the ball deep reduces his potency.

**Bruno Fernandes**-6

The captain today didn't quite live up to the stats he has put out for the majority of this season. Seven goals and four assists in the Europa League. Fernandes did not provide the outlet needed to break the United scoreline.

**Casemiro**-6

Defensively sound enough. There was a point where United had a one-on-two situation, and Casemiro had to pump his arms to try and distract from the Tottenham attack. Luck was on his side as a poor touch dissolved the attack.

**Patrick Dorgu**-5

A decent showing. Was relied on heavily to provide the width down the left-hand side. A better tandem with Luke Shaw needs to be built, as this will only further unlock his potential. 20 years young and playing relatively comfortably in a European Cup final.

Leno Yoro-6

Shy at the start, but carrying the ball when possible. It's a great skill to have, and over this season, it has been very impressive with the growth he has shown.

From playing Ligue 1 to playing for one of the most famous teams in England. Yoro should have a solid spot in the backline when the injured defenders do make a comeback.

**Harry Maguire**- 6

Last line of defence and attack. Relied on very heavily today, but was made too obvious as to being the attacking threat, especially in those final minutes.

Was a solid game from Maguire playing to the attacking wingers and venturing forward to try and put the team on his back once again. As we reach the end of the season, it is great to see the England International having found his role.

Noussair Mazraoui-4

I always expect more from Mazraoui. He has a great ability that does not always get utilised. Amorim favoured Mazraoui over Diogo Dalot due to injuries, but hopes would have asked for more.

**Luke Shaw**-3

Yeah, not the best form of one of the most senior United players. Delayed by injuries, but you would expect his seniority to shine through. At times scrappy at the back and not definitive enough when playing a potential attacking pass.

**Andre Onana**-2

Shocking. I don't have the words anymore, if I am painfully truthful. We have seen it game after game after game. He makes the simple things look difficult.

It's like he wants to look like he's making an effort through his mistakes. Poor communication with the defenders and poor between the goal posts. His future is obvious at this point.

Substitutes:

**Diogo Dalot**-6

Great crosses and should have been brought on earlier as soon as **Maguire**took a more attacking role.

**Alejandro Garnacho**- 6

Great energy from the Argentine, coming on late and still putting in a decent shift.

Had a shot on target and gave Pedro Porro some issues down the wing. Unfortunately, he did not make the starting eleven, and who knows what would have happened if he had. But as they say, hindsight is 20/20.

**Joshua Zirkzee**- 6

Great first touch as per usual. A rapid return from injury. It must have brought tears to eyes and put smiles on faces when he was put on the team sheet.

**Kobbie Mainoo**- N/A
