Losing a final has consequences, especially when it was the only game holding the season together, and for Ruben Amorim, that consequence might be about to reveal itself in the worst possible manner.
Ruben Amorim getting sacked is out of the window and it would probably be an ill-advised move too, as ill-advised as keeping Erik ten Hag on the basis of one game was last season.
However, that means Man Utd will have to “sack” a lot of players instead, as a large-scale clearout will be needed to reset the culture of the club.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is already ready to do it, but after losing the final, they might be forced to listen to one offer that even Amorim has already said no to.

Ruben Amorim facing an uncomfortable offer
Amorim hasn’t shied away from accepting that he’s ready to engineer a huge clearout/rebuild in the summer, a sentiment supported by Man Utd fans.
Not many fans will weep at the exits of players after such a nightmare season where barely anyone has emerged with their reputations intact, let alone enhanced.
Except for the players in the academy, arguably only Leny Yoro and Amad have taken a step forward this season which is why Amorim will have to consider an uncomfortable offer after the final defeat.
Rumblings about an offer for Bruno Fernandes from Saudi Arabia are real, and Amorim has already said no, but things might change now.

It’s not fair to pass judgement on a player on the basis of one game, especially not someone with the quality of Bruno Fernandes, but it’s not as cut-and-dried anymore.
Fernandes struggled immensely in the final and turns 31 in September. His book value is already zero after seeing out his initial contract and Al Hilal are open to breaking the bank for him.
🚨 Bruno Fernandes: “My point of view has never been the financial side”.
“If I want to go for a financial side I will always have the option to go, but that’s not the thing. What I want is to win trophies and be involved in the best competitions”. pic.twitter.com/eESYD6pGDy

His importance to Man Utd is unmatched and doesn’t need words to be described anymore, but could his value as a potential sellable asset be even higher, especially if United want to reset the club without European revenue?
Bruno Fernandes shouldn’t be indispensable
It’s one thing putting a player on the transfer list, which is absolutely not what United should do with Fernandes, but the final defeat should soften their stance.
If Al Hilal are willing to offer triple figures for the Portuguese, United should consider coming to the negotiation table, despite Amorim closing the door on this move already.
That is the sort of figure that can easily offset the European absence hit, and if there was ever a season to rebuild the squad from the ground up, it is the next one with no European football.
Fernandes has already accepted that that is a fate he can see in the future with some brutally honest comments.
He said: “The day the club thinks it’s too much, or it is time to leave, football is like that and you never know. If the club thinks it’s time to leave, because they want to make some money, then it is what it is.”
Failures have consequences.
