Newcastle United set for reunion with referee who missed something 'blatant' for Everton clash

Newcastle United have a huge game against Everton on Sunday.

For Newcastle United, the task is simple. Beat Everton on the final day of the Premier League season and they will confirm qualification for the Champions League.

If they don’t, it’s hard to imagine Eddie Howe’s side reaching Europe’s elite club competition once again. Newcastle insiders are confident about reaching the Champions League but the job isn’t done yet.

The race for the top five in the Premier League table has come down to the final day and all of Manchester City, Newcastle, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are gunning for three spots.

The pressure is on the Newcastle United manager. Now, the Premier League have confirmed who will oversee the huge game at St James’ Park.

Premier League make official announcement ahead of Newcastle United vs Everton

On Wednesday, the Premier League’s official website confirmed that Tony Harrington would be in charge of the titanic clash on Tyneside.

He will be assisted by Dan Cook and Sam Lewis, while Paul Tierney will be on VAR duty.

Interestingly, Harrington was in charge for the 1-1 draw between Newcastle and Everton at St James’ last season.

During that game, the Toffees were awarded a late penalty after Paul Dummett was judged to have fouled Ashley Young in the box. Harrington did not award a spot-kick but was advised to go over to the monitor before reversing his decision.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored and while Howe had no complaints, Young admitted he was baffled Harrington missed the “blatant” foul in the first place.

“It was a tough gig out there,” said Young to the Liverpool Echo.

“It was so blatant, I just couldn’t work out that he hadn’t given it straight away.”

Sky Sports shockingly snub Newcastle United fans in Champions League showdown

Sadly for Toon supporters in the UK, they won’t be able to watch the Everton clash live on TV.

Newcastle vs Everton isn’t on Sky Sports because the broadcaster has chosen to show Liverpool’s game against Crystal Palace as well Nottingham Forest’s meeting with Chelsea instead.

That is a crying shame for Toon fans who are unable to get into St James’. Liverpool wrapped up the title weeks ago and Palace have little to play for on the final day, making the decision to show that game over Newcastle’s strange.

It’s a huge game for Newcastle United. While they would have surely taken being in this position before a ball was kicked this season, the nerves are still building.
