Indiana Pacers v New York Knicks - Game One

Sarah Stier

NEW YORK-Tyrese Haliburton hit a shot with time expiring in regulation and then he helped his Indiana Pacers hold off the New York Knicks in overtime of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden 138-135 in overtime.

Indiana trailed by as many as 17 points, but six fourth quarter three-pointers by Aaron Nesmith and Haliburton’s 23-foot step back jumper tied the game at 125 to send it into overtime. After the Pacers got a stop in the extra session and Obi Toppin made a dunk, that put the Knicks down 138-135.

Knicks guard Jalen Brunson missed a three and then Karl-Anthony Towns couldn’t a three either off an offensive rebound by Josh Hart. That’s when the Knicks ran out of time.

Haliburton scored 31 points on 11 assists and grabbed four rebounds. All five Pacers were in double figure scoring with Nesmith also scoring 30 points and hitting 8 of 9 three-pointers.

Brunson’s 43 points weren’t enough to propel the Knicks to a victory.

Indiana forced the Knicks to commit 15 turnovers that led to 27 Pacer points.

The Pacers take a 1-0 series lead and have stolen homecourt advantage from New York. Game 2 is in New York Friday night. Tipoff at 8 pm with pregame coverage starting at 7:30 on 93.5 and 107.5 The Fan.
