Alexis Mac Allister has been one of Liverpool’s most consistent players throughout the 2024-25 Premier League season.
The Argentina international has formed a more than solid trio with Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai and has already etched his name into the Liverpool history books.
Despite the importance of Mac Allister in the Premier League this season, things could have been very different if Jurgen Klopp had got his number one target in the 2023-24 summer transfer window.

Each of the three midfielders brought in during that window have come into their own over the last season, but there was one main target who just slipped out of Klopp’s grasp.
Moises Caicedo makes massive mistake after snubbing Liverpool
There’s no hiding from the fact that the transfer of Moises Caicedo was pried out of the Anfield outfit’s hands after Todd Boehly’s massive spending spree at Chelsea.
The American businessman took over the Blues after Roman Abramovich was forced to sell the club.
At the time, Chelsea’s project seemed enticing and intriguing, but looking back now, it was a massive mistake on Caicedo’s part.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have been fighting it out in the Europa Conference League and are trying to make the most of a bad situation.

Trophies are the main way that success is judged in football, hence why it’s clear that Mac Allister has got the better end of the deal.
Statistically, Mac Allister has also managed to outdo his former Brighton teammate, with the 2022 World Cup winner earning the status of one of the Premier League’s best midfielders.

The 2024-25 seasons of Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo in numbers.
Not only do these statistics show how much better Mac Allister has performed, but they also outline why Caicedo has made a mistake.
In his first season with Liverpool, Mac Allister was used as a defensive midfielder despite being a much more attack-minded midfielder.
While his performance in that role was commendable, there’s no denying that he’s taken things to another level under Arne Slot in the 2024-25 Premier League season.
Of course, there’s still plenty of time for the tables to be turned, and Caicedo could eventually become better, but on paper, Caicedo has made a huge error after choosing Chelsea over Liverpool.
