Former Aaron Rodgers coach expects him to sign with Pittsburgh Steelers

Aaron Rodgers’ former head coach, Matt LaFleuer, believes he will soon sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

LaFleur, who coached Rodgers for four seasons from 2019 to 2022 before he was traded to the New York Jets in 2023, says he has not talked with Rodgers, but he is fully expecting to play Rodgers for the first time since his departure.

“I’m pretty sure [the Steelers] know what they’re doing,” LaFleur said on the “Up & Adams” show. “I’m sure they’re confident in what they’re doing, and I would fully expect him to be a Pittsburgh Steeler."

In addition to not hearing from Rodgers, LaFleur, the offensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans while Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith was his tight ends coach, has not heard from Smith either.

No, not once. Nothing,” LaFleur said. “Neither has Arthur [Smith], their OC. I haven’t heard from either of those guys, in regards to him.”

NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero predicts between the start mandatory minicamp and the start of training camp is when Rodgers will ink his deal and officially become the starting quarterback of the Steelers in 2025.

“Is it the week of minicamp?” Pelissero said. “Is it the day after minicamp? Is it the week before training camp? Is it the day before training camp begins? Somewhere in that bandwidth, I believe. I don’t know this for a fact because we’re talking about the enigma of the NFL here, but I anticipate Aaron Rodgers is going to end up committing to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s a matter of when, not if.”

The Steelers have three quarterbacks on the roster, but general manager Omar Khan said they would have four on their training camp roster, with the last one likely being a veteran. Rodgers is the top candidate for that, and Pittsburgh remains confident he will sign.
