Sky Sports journalist talks up“special”Liverpool ace leaving; Reds will“not stand in his way”

Liverpool will not stand in the way of Harvey Elliott if he wants to leave the club this summer, according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The 22-year-old has endured a frustrating season for the Reds, despite winning the Premier League title, finding himself on the periphery of Arne Slot’s plans.

Elliott has struggled to force his way into Liverpool’s midfield, with Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones generally preferred to him.

According to Plettenberg on X on Thursday, the Englishman could leave Anfield this summer, amid interest in him from a host of clubs:

“A departure of HarveyElliottis possible. There are many interesting enquiries, and talks are ongoing. Liverpool would not stand in his way if a suitable offer comes in. His contract runs until 2027. LFC 5 goals and 3 assists across all competitions so far this season.”

Right time for Elliott to enjoy a new challenge?

Elliott has a huge decision to make at Liverpool this summer, with the idea of him leaving the club he grew up supporting clearly sad, but only two Premier League starts coming his way this season.

The youngster has found it hard to impose himself on the midfield, perhaps not possessing the dynamism that Slot craves, even though former Reds striker Neil Mellor lauded him last year, saying: “Great to see this lad back starting and influencing games. A special talent.”

The brutal reality is that Elliott will do well to ever become a regular starter for Liverpool, considering the depth and quality at Slot’s disposal, and there is also a possibility that further midfield additions will arrive this summer.

For that reason, he has to be considering his future at Anfield, perhaps feeling that now is the right time to enjoy a fresh challenge in his career.

Elliott has the natural ability to be a key player for a lower-ranked Premier League, such as his former club Fulham, as an example, and that may appeal to him more than warming the substitutes’ bench most weeks.

It would be a shame to leave him leave, given how much he loves Liverpool, but he has to be careful that he doesn’t waste some of his best years, so a summer exit could make the most sense.
