Callum Marshall, Huddersfield Town’s player of the year, is attracting interest from the Terriers' League One rivals Wycombe Wanderers.
The 20-year-old, who spent the season just gone on loan with Town from West Ham United, is on the Chairboys transfer radar ahead of the summer window, according to Bucks Free Press.
The Northern Ireland international impressed on loan with the Terriers this term, scoring 10 times in all competitions for the club, with 12 goal contributions in the league from 43 appearances, 31 of which were starts.
He won the club’s main player of the year award, voted for by the Town supporters, for his displays in what was overall an unsatisfactory season for the team as their bid to return to the Championship at the first time of asking crumbled in the latter part of the campaign.
It was still a productive move for Marshall. Reflecting on his season, the forward said:: “When you come on loan, you want to be in an environment where you’re wanted, where you’re one of hopefully the main players that can make a difference in a game.
“Especially as an attacker, you want to be the one getting goals and assists, and making big differences for the team.
“That’s what every youngster looks for when they come on loan, so I think it’s going well.”
Marshall is under contract at West Ham for the next two years. He has previously spoken about wanting to return and fight for a chance to play for his parent club following his loan spell at the John Smith's Stadium.
“I just want to use this loan spell to push on for when I go back to West Ham this summer,” Marshall said in the spring. “There’s a new manager, and hopefully he’ll get a good look at me and see what he thinks.”
“Everything is up for grabs, so it’s about me going back and making a good impression. There are opportunities for young players at the club now. West Ham have a good record at bringing youngsters through. When I go back, hopefully I can make more appearances.”
Wycombe were the only club mentioned as being interested in Marshall in the original report, but after he showed his potential with Huddersfield, others will no doubt be looking at him as a potential loan target in League One or above.
Wanderers made the play-offs in the third tier, having pushed for automatic promotion to the Championship for most of the season, but they lost their two-legged semi-final tie with Charlton Athletic.
Much like Huddersfield, it will be a summer of change for them, having released a large number of players, as they look to go again and build a team capable of pushing for promotion.
The Terriers are still looking for a new manager and sporting director. However, they have reportedly held talks with potential candidates, including recently dismissed Hull City boss Ruben Selles, for the managerial hotseat, and they remain interested in Nottingham Forest director Ross Wilson.
