'Let it go': Duncan Ferguson admits one thing disappointed him about Carlo Ancelotti at Everton

Everton legend Duncan Ferguson was given a huge reception at the weekend during the Goodison Park Finale celebrations.

David Moyes has worked wonders with the squad he took on from Sean Dyche back in January.

The Toffees have not had it easy over recent years, though.

Plenty of managers have come and gone at Everton under the tenure of Farhad Moshiri with Carlo Ancelotti undoubtedly the biggest name.

Ancelotti hailed Goodison Park in his own farewell message ahead of the game last weekend.

The legendary Italian manager worked with Ferguson as one of his coaches and the pair formed an unlikely friendship.

But there was one thing which the Scot has now admitted he tried to change about the 65-year-old during their time together at Goodison.

Ferguson has admitted he would love to work with Ancelotti again as the 65-year-old is set to leave Real Madrid in the coming days.

The pair certainly sparked a strong bond with Ferguson sharing his thoughts about Ancelotti on The Rest is Football podcast.

“Very nice of him. Very nice of him,” Ferguson said about Ancelotti writing the foreword for his book.

“Me and Carlo got on great. When he first came to the club I think he saw a straight man, I think he saw somebody who knew what he was doing in the coaching side and I was loyal to him.

“We got on great. Lovely man and I actually went on holiday with him and been out to Spain to visit him.”

But he also admitted there was one thing which did frustrate him slightly about the Italian.

“I saw it [his class] when I was coaching I was jumping up and down and saying: ‘Come on, Carlo’. And he’d reply: ‘Ah Duncan, you know let it go’.”

Alex Iwobi hailed Ancelotti’s aura that was so visible around the Finch Farm training camp.

But the calm and collected Italian did not exactly share the same enthusiasm in celebrating with Ferguson.

Ferguson says Everton fans love their number nines

Everton have endured their struggles this season when it comes to their strikers.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is in talks over a new deal and Beto has shown promising signs of form in recent months.

However, the Toffees will be going into the summer window looking for a new striker.

And Ferguson thinks the club need a number nine to really get behind.

“I was aggressive, they love their big number nines, as you know [Gary Lineker],” he said.
