'Wow...' - Gary Neville left baffled after Ian Wright's Mohamed Salah claim

Mohamed Salah has been Liverpool’s best player in the 2024-25 season by some distance.

The Egyptian King is one of the main reasons why Liverpool managed to win the Premier League title in the first place, with others such as Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota failing to meet expectations.

Many expected Liverpool to end up in a massive rebuilding phase after the departure of Jurgen Klopp, but instead, Arne Slot has made the dreams of fans come true after he led the Reds to the title at the first time of asking.

Despite Salah’s importance to the Anfield outfit’s title charge this term, Ian Wright doesn’t think he should be classed as the Premier League’s best forward, which left Gary Neville somewhat taken aback.

Ian Wright picks Alexander Isak over Mohamed Salah as the Premier League’s best attacker this season

As mentioned, without Salah among their ranks, there’s not a chance that Liverpool would have made their way to the top of the table.

And, while Alexander Isak has no doubt been important to Newcastle this season, the fact that Wright believes Isak should be given the title of the Premier League’s best attacker is mind-boggling.

This opinion isn’t shared by Neville, who was taken aback after Wright’s suggestion when going through their Premier League players of the season on the Stick to Football Podcast.

“Best forward, I don’t think we’ll hang around much on this,” Neville said. “It’s got to be Salah, hasn’t it?”

Ian Wright then chipped in with his thoughts and said Alexander Isak would be his preference.

To which Neville replied: “Are you going, Isak, over Salah? Wow, I didn’t think that would be a choice.”

Why Mohamed Salah has been better than Alexander Isak this season

Isak may be the talk of the town with how much he’s thrived at Newcastle this season, but on paper, there’s no comparison between his performances and Salah’s.

Of course, both have had incredible seasons, and neither should be knocked down, but the fact that Salah is on the brink of breaking multiple Premier League records should be enough for him to earn the status of the Premier League’s best attacker.

Alongside his on-pitch displays, Salah has extended his Anfield stay for a further two years, which outlines how pivotal he is in terms of Slot’s plans for the coming seasons.

Liverpool’s last Premier League game of the season comes against Crystal Palace, who are just coming off the back of an FA Cup win over Manchester City.

So, as long as Salah can find his form again and at least contribute one or two goals, we could see another legendary season in the making.

Of course, only time will tell what the future holds, but with the way things have played out at Anfield thus far, it feels like there’s only one way for things to be heading.
