Caoimhin Kelleher appears increasingly likely to leave Liverpool this summer, with the club facing their final opportunity to secure a significant transfer fee for the goalkeeper before his contract enters its final year.
The 26-year-old Irish international, whose current deal expires in June 2026, is unlikely to remain at Anfield amid the impending arrival of Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Liverpool have reportedly set an asking price of £30 million for Kelleher, who has impressed during his limited opportunities as Alisson Becker’s deputy.
The Reds stand to make “pure profit” from any sale, as Kelleher came through the club’s youth setup after joining in 2015.
With just one year remaining on his contract after this season, the summer transfer window represents Liverpool’s last chance to maximize their return on the goalkeeper.
The Republic of Ireland manager, Heimir Hallgrimsson, has already urged the shot-stopper to seek pastures anew:
“I just want Caoimhin to go to a club where he will play on a regular level,” Hallgrimsson said
“He has been playing at the highest level, whether it’s the Champions League or the EPL and done really well.”
“I just want him to be happy and play regularly.”
“Caoimhin has spoken about it himself, but I don’t mind where he goes so long as he is playing on a regular basis because he is too good not to be playing,”
Liverpool’s decision to sign Georgian international Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in August 2024 effectively signaled the beginning of the end for Kelleher at Anfield.
The £29 million deal (£25 million plus £4 million in add-ons) will see Mamardashvili officially join the Reds on July 1, 2025, after completing the current season with Valencia.
Plenty of clubs in the Premier League are said to be interested in the Ireland ‘keeper, from Aston Villa, Leeds United, and even Newcastle.
However, the Athletic’s Chris Waugh has revealed in an update on the goalkeeping situation at St James’ Park that the Magpies are not in for him:
“James Trafford is the top goalkeeper target as things stand, although he is not the only one.”
“Kelleher has also regularly been linked and has Premier League experience, but I have not heard that he is high on the wanted list.”
Kelleher has made no secret of his desire to establish himself as a first-choice goalkeeper.
After being denied a move away from Liverpool last summer, the Irishman has continued to perform admirably when called upon, making 20 appearances this season while Alisson was sidelined with injuries.
