Premier League striker holds talks with Chelsea and Man United

Manchester United’s dismal season continued on Wednesday night as they were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.

The Red Devils have endured a torrid campaign so far and currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, with winning the Europa League their only way of qualifying for European football next term.

Brennan Johnson’s first-half goal ended those hopes though, as well as bringing to an end Spurs’ 17-year wait for a major trophy.

United head coach Ruben Amorim is under inreasing pressure to turn his side’s fortunes around, starting with their final match of the season against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Portuguese will likely want to make changes to his squad this summer, and it appears that United are wasting no time ahead of the transfer window reopening.

According to Fabrizio Romano via CaughtOffside, both United and Chelsea have held talks with Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap about a potential move this summer.

The 22-year-old joined the Tractor Boys from Manchester City last summer and has enjoyed an impressive individual campaign, despite Ipswich being relegated back down to the Championship.

He has scored 12 goals in 36 matches for Kieran McKenna’s side in the Premier League, and Romano suggests that his impressive form hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The report claims that both Chelsea and United have held initial talks with the player’s representatives, although the two Premier League giants to both also have other possible targets on their respective shortlists.

Delap is under contract at Portman Road until the end of the 2028/29 campaign, but his current deal includes a release clause of £30 million which has become active as a result of Town’s relegation to the second tier.

The player himself is said to be exploring his options ahead of what could be an interesting transfer window this summer.
