Jed York probably echoed a lot of fans' sentiments about the Tush Push and whether or not the NFL would continue allowing it.
San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York apparently had enough.
During the NFL spring meeting, team owners met to cover a number of topics, but none were as high-profile as the decision whether or not to ban the "tush push," the famous (or infamous) play made notable by the Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles.
On the table to be banned during games, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie apparently made a 45-minute defense of the play to prevent it from becoming an illegal formation.
The speech got on York's nerves, which were wearing thin after nearly an hour of chatter from Philly's chief.
According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, York interrupted Lurie and urged the rest of the owners by asking, "Can we just vote already?"
Ultimately, the proposal to ban the push, brought to the table by the Green Bay Packers, ultimately didn't garner enough votes to pass, receiving only 22 of the necessary 24 votes to go into effect.
York and the Niners voted in favor of the ban, but that side of the table didn't get its way.
The story ran deeper, though, including York expressing some clear impatience with how long Philadelphia's defense of the play was going.
From Breer:
"Then, with the room already worn down by the Eagles’ defense strategy, assistant GM Jon Ferrari, a former league-office employee, explained the execution of the play and how it was officiated, which was when Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula, and York spoke up. Jones asked a slew of devil’s advocate questions of Ferrari. York then tried to move everyone to vote, joking that he’d have to get himself a bourbon if one didn’t come soon."
This probably helps explain why York joked on Twitter/X not long after the vote was final about getting former Eagles offensive lineman Jason Kelce, who joined Lurie's defense team during the meeting, a bourbon, too.
We'll have to keep tabs on whether or not San Francisco's top executive follows through on his offer to get Kelce the spirit.
