Arsenal have placed Lille forward Jonathan David on their striker shortlist ahead of his contract expiry, The Athletic has revealed.
The Gunners have reportedly earmarked the Canadian international as an alternative to Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, as David looks set to depart Lille on a free transfer next month.
Mikel Arteta is aware of David’s upcoming availability, but the 25-year-old striker is not particularly high on Arsenal’s list of potential targets at the moment, with both Gyokeres and Sesko more likely additions.
Arsenal are expected to sign a new number nine after the season following an injury-hit campaign for both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

According to The Athletic, David has no shortage of suitors across both England and Europe ahead of his contract expiry and remains a player of interest for a host of clubs.
The likes of Liverpool and Aston Villa are among his Premier League admirers, while Napoli, Juventus, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich have also shown interest.
David’s agents have recently been spotted in Italy amid reports claiming Napoli have already made an offer for the Canadian ace, who was once called a 'superstar'.
The 25-year-old has been exceptional for Lille this season, scoring 25 goals and providing 12 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions.
Arsenal are anticipating a busy summer after once again missing out on the Premier League title, with Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi expected to be among the first arrivals.
The Euro 2024 winner will cost the Gunners around £51m and is likely to arrive as a replacement for Jorginho, who is set to join Brazilian side Flamengo next month.
