Sky Sports respond to angry subscriber following decision to not televise Newcastle United v…

· 22 May 2025, 17:30

**Newcastle United fans were equal parts confused and angry when the UK broadcasters confirmed their selections for the games to be televised live on Sunday.**

The title race has been decided, the relegation places are all wrapped up, the only thing that holds any real appeal this Sunday to the neutral is the fight for the remaining Champions League places, which involves Newcastle, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.

Chelsea and Forest meet on Sunday, and that game will be on Sky Sports, while Aston Villa go to Manchester United, which will be shown on TNT Sports. The only game that directly affects the Champions League placing that isn't being shown? Newcastle versus Everton.

Instead, Sky Sports has opted to show the Liverpool v Crystal Palace game, which has no bearing on anything other than Palace's final league position.

Sky Sports issue response to complaints about final day match selection

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

A Newcastle fan, [writing for The Mag](https://www.themag.co.uk/2025/05/sky-sports-replied-with-this-when-i-complained-about-them-showing-liverpool-v-crystal-palace-newcastle-v-everton-newcastle-united/), has shared the response he got from Sky Sports after emailing them to complain about their match choice.

> "I’m sorry to read you are unhappy with our selection of matches. Sky Sports has chosen to televise Liverpool vs Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea on the final day of the Premier League season, Sunday, May 25, 2025."While at first glance Liverpool vs Crystal Palace might seem irrelevant in terms of Champions League qualification or relegation, there are a couple of key reasons for its selection:"Trophy Presentation: Liverpool have already secured the Premier League title, and this match will feature the trophy presentation at Anfield, which is a major televised event. It’s their first title since 2020, and there will be a celebratory atmosphere that appeals to a broad audience."FA Cup Winners: Crystal Palace are the FA Cup winners this season, adding a bit more prestige to the fixture."Meanwhile, the Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea match has direct implications for Champions League qualification, as both teams are still in contention for a top-five finish

>

> "I really do appreciate you sharing your feedback with us, which I will pass on to our Sky Sports team for their awareness."

The letter just serves to make the decision even more aggravating

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Unless the trophy presentation is happening while all the other matches are still being played, we don't see any reason why the entire Liverpool game needs to be televised for the purposes of broadcasting the trophy presentation. When the full-time whistle blows at St James' Park, they could easily cut to Anfield for the celebrations.

Suggesting that Crystal Palace's FA Cup win has any bearing whatsoever on making the game more interesting is absolutely mental. The two teams will play each other in the Community Shield ahead of next season ... and most people won't even give a rat's tuchus about that!

It's just more Liverpool bias by Sky Sports as they have been thoroughly stuck up their hoop all season!
