Report: Crystal Palace make contact to sign 'elite talent' who is a 'creative genius', £21m…

Crystal Palace are reportedly plotting a move for Croatian attacking midfielder Martin Baturina ahead of a debut UEFA Europa League campaign.

The Eagles' FA Cup triumph means they will be in Europe next season and Oliver Glasner is set to be handed at least four new signings. Two of those are expected to be attackers, with Lyon's Rayan Cherki among those thought to be on the club's radar.

Baturina, similarly to Cherki, is another European attacking gem who could be on the move this summer. The 22-year-old is ripping it up at Dinamo Zagreb and Palace could face heavy competition for his signature.

TEAMTalk reports that Palace are one of three Premier League clubs that asked for information on Baturina. Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion also want to be kept in the loop regarding the Croatia international's availability this summer.

Baturina could be available for around €25m (£21.1m), which could entice the Eagles to swoop. The young attacking midfielder is versatile and has popped up with constant assists this season, while already having a taste of Europa League football with Zagreb.

There is interest from Italy, with Inter Milan having followed him for years while Fiorentina were monitoring him last summer. Palace may need to move quickly with the queue growing for the 2023 Best Prva HNL U-21 player of the season, dubbed an "elite creative genius" by Ben Mattinson.

Baturina's playmaking abilities have been compared to those of Luka Modric, which speaks volumes about his passing range and dribbling abilities. He's earned 11 caps for Croatia, including nine alongside the Real Madrid legend.
