Todd Bowles
The Buccaneers’ head coach is all smiles.
Hey, it’s May and Tampa Bay has a strong roster. There’s also plenty of work to be done to be ready for the 2025 season, says Todd Bowles. He made a visit to _Rooted in Progress_ on WFLA-TV for an interview that hit on many aspects’ of Bowles’ life.
There also was a little football chatter.
The NFL schedule came out a week ago and Bowles feels great about it. He explained that he wants a true midseason bye. And that’s what he got, as well as a Week 15 Thursday night game.
> “If it’s early, you know, you don’t have anything for the stretch run,” Bowles said. “So if people get hurt, you don’t get that break. And if it’s too late, you kind of want it in the middle — Week 7, 8 or 9. And the Thursday game, you get it 10 days after that, so that’s a mini-bye. So you always look at that first — because if you get it Week 3, the rest of the year, you’re humping it. So I always look at those kind of things. …”

> “You look for how many long distance trips you got, how many long back-to-backs do you have, and when’s your Thursday night game so when’s your short week.”
Bowles also said he’s down on cold weather games, but that’s a Bowles thing. “I’m not a big cold weather person,” he said.
Joe loves the schedule, as Joe has said many times. Bowles is 3-0 on opening days as Bucs head coach, so opening with a critical road game feels like a bonus. As for the bye week, there are potential positives and negatives to any particular week.
