Everton fans watched on with delight as Manchester United capped off a woeful season by losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final.

Everton fans hold a long-standing disdain for Man United, and many were actively rooting for Tottenham to beat them in Bilbao.

The defeat leaves Man United 16th in the Premier League, below David Moyes’ side, and Ruben Amorim is now under huge pressure.

It appears that the Portuguese manager may remain until next season, but one Everton player has now issued a warning to him.

Ashley Young fires Man United warning at Amorim

Everton veteran and former Man United star Ashley Young has now sent a warning to Amorim that he cannot afford to start next season badly.

Young is a popular figure at Man United, and was still in their squads as their decline began following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Speaking on talkSPORT (22 May, 9.42am), Young was able to vouch from personal experience as he warned that Amorim will be under huge pressure to deliver from the start of the season, otherwise he may face the sack.

Ashley Young’s record this season

“It’s now for the players to make Old Trafford a fortress again,” Young stated

“This is one of the most disappointing seasons Man United have ever had,” Young stated.

“Going into next season, it’s massive now. If people don’t step up, if people don’t take their chances early on, what’s going to happen?”

Young to depart Everton

Young joined Everton on a free transfer from Aston Villa two years ago, and has since made an astonishing 69 appearances despite his age.

The 39-year-old has had a mixed spell at Goodison Park, with some costly errors and red cards, but has brought a wealth of experience to the squad.

The former England international has confirmed he will leave Everton this summer, with his next steps unclear at the moment.

Young made 261 appearances for Man United, and won several major trophies with them, but was also part of their squads during the start of their troublesome years.

However, this is United’s worst season in Premier League history, and it may take a huge rebuild job to get them back to the top level.
