Florian Wirtz’s future is one of the most talked-about things in world football at the moment.
Heading into the summer, Wirtz has been linked with Liverpool, Manchester City and Bayern Munich already.
While most outlets believe that Wirtz’s future lies with Vincent Kompany in the Bundesliga, Liverpool seem to be doing everything in their power to convince him to make the switch to Anfield instead.
A number 10 is arguably not all that high on Arne Slot’s priority list this summer, but with the way things are headed, a move for the German could soon become a reality.

Indeed, that likelihood will only increase following a transfer update on Harvey Elliott that has come to light.
Harvey Elliott is now on Bayer Leverkusen’s list of targets
Elliott’s season hasn’t panned out as he would’ve hoped.
The Englishman has been outcast by Slot and, speaking after Liverpool’s 3-2 loss to Brighton on Monday, it seems that Elliott is unsure whether his future lies at Anfield.
These doubts, coupled with the fact that he has plenty of potential to live up to, mean that it’s not all that surprising to see teams showing an interest in the midfielder.

And, as per a report from German outlet Fussball Transfers, Bayer Leverkusen now have Elliott on their ‘list’ of potential targets.
The report also outlines that they have a ‘broad repertoire’ of potential targets, with Manchester City’s James McAtee also finding his way onto their list.
Liverpool now have a bargaining chip for the transfer of Florian Wirtz
With Liverpool’s interest in Wirtz as strong as it is, it’s not hard to put two and two together regarding what this could mean for both clubs.
Both Liverpool and Leverkusen have players that each other want, and if Slot wants to get Wirtz’s price down, Elliott could be used as a bargaining chip to sweeten the deal.
The young Englishman has many similar qualities to the German, with Elliott’s versatility also being a key selling point, even if he hasn’t had the best of returns this season.

The 2024-25 season of Harvey Elliott in numbers.
At the moment, these are all ifs, buts, and maybes, but in reality, it’s a move that makes the world of sense for everyone involved.
It’s evident that Slot hasn’t got a space for Elliott in his plans at the moment and while he may see him fitting in somewhere down the line in the future, it doesn’t feel like it’s worth running that risk.
Only time will tell what the future holds, but with the way things have gone for Liverpool this season, anything is possible.
