The rumour mill is in full swing, or should we say the hope and wishes of Swans fans is adding to the flavour. We have a look at the players linked and it isn’t good news, but that depends on your outlook on ageing players coming to Swansea.
First off, Luka Modrić (39) won’t be joining Swansea this summer. He is though committed to the Swans cause and is already active as an ambassador since investing in the club. We’ve already seen this with the signing of Zeidane Inoussa as an example, and he will be involved again this season if needed. He retires at the end of the bizarre World Club Cup which is weeks away. Him being connected to Swansea City has been a massive influence already worldwide and the benefits will continue to be seen throughout this transfer window.
Ben Davies has been muted since he announced his retirement from Tottenham Hotspur and gaining a European medal. We can exclusively reveal he hasn’t been approached officially as the Swans are more than aware of his plans for the next two years. They lay away from Swansea with a number of Premier League clubs tailing him plus he has his eye on playing abroad before he retires. So, unfortunately he won’t be coming to Swansea either. At thirty two he has much more to do.
We can now concentrate on the gossip surrounding Cameroon international, Vincent Aboubakar (33) the out of contract ex Besikta & Porto player who is now a free agent after leaving Hatayspor this month. He has spent the last five years joining clubs as an out of contract player or free agent, and has amassed a massive fortune. The latest on him was he would be joining Swansea for assessment as he had been invited to train at Fairwood. That is totally untrue, there has been no invitation from the Swans as it stands today. Previous rumours can be discounted, they were coming from those searching for a new club for him. The Swans have not had any contact. And we understand they wouldn’t be interested.
A name that has been mentioned to us is Burnley player, Tom Tweedy. We can only imagine it’s because he is from Swansea. The Swans have sufficient players on the left side of midfield where he prefers to operate. The twenty year old ex Penybont player joined Burnley in 2023 for a fee suggested to be around twenty thousand pounds. They lay away Swansea have admired him from afar and rate him, but not for the way Alan Sheehan is looking to play next season.
These players bar Tweedy are cracking on, and although Davies has a lot of experience his continuation in professional football is at a far higher level. That’s our transfer update, we can’t always be the purveyor of good news, but at least Swans fans are now aware that their desires for these players won’t be fulfilled this summer.
