Arsenal could consider sale of starting forward for a big offer

Arsenal don’t currently intend to sell Gabriel Martinelli this summer, according to a report, but they could consider it for a huge offer.

James McNicholas reports for The Athletic that for the time being, Gabriel Martinelli remains part of Mikel Arteta’s plans for the future. The Brazilian winger has a contract lasting until 2027, and the Gunners hold an option to extend that to 2028.

In early conversations with Martinelli, new sporting director Andrea Berta has made it clear that the club intend to keep him.

Yet that could all change, if Arsenal receive a “huge offer”. The Gunners reportedly value Martinelli at more than £50m, and the offer would also have to come from one of few clubs the player would be willing to join, so that’s certainly not a given.

Arsenal haven’t held any significant talks with Martinelli over a contract extension, but that’s not exactly surprising. With the potential to keep him around for another three years on his current deal, the Gunners have plenty of time to reassess the situation further down the line.

Martinelli has been a key player for Arsenal again this season, featuring 50 times for Arteta’s side despite missing a few games with a hamstring problem.

It hasn’t been the Brazilian’s best season in front of goal, but he’s still managed to hit 10 goals for the campaign and six assists on top of that.

Martinelli’s future will likely end up being tied to incomings. The Gunners certainly can’t afford to let him leave without bringing anyone in, and they also might not want to spend big in his position without any guarantees of a sale.

With the transfer window still yet to even open, there’s a long way to go before anything is certain.
