Many fans are now feeling the team has regressed both in terms of results and overall performances since Erik ten Hag departed.
Missing out on UEFA Champions League football for next season only worsens the outlook.
The club will now face the financial and sporting consequences of their failure to qualify, with major implications for summer recruitment and long-term planning.
United never really got going in Bilbao, frustrating supporters with another disjointed and passive display in a major final.
Despite the defeat, two United players have earned some individual recognition.
Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes named in Europa League Team of the Season
Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro have both been named in the UEFA Europa League Team of the Season, as posted on the official Europa League X/Twitter page.
The full XI includes:
Guglielmo Vicario, Robin Koch, Sergio Romero, Pedro Porro, Fredrik Andre Bjørkan, Berg, Nico Williams, Dominik Solanke, Rayan Cherki, and United’s Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.
Fernandes has been recognised for his contributions throughout the tournament, even if his display in the final left much to be desired.
Operating in a deeper role last night, the captain struggled to find the creative spark that fans have come to expect – with his passing lacking the cutting edge needed to break down Spurs.
Nonetheless, Fernandes ends the Europa League campaign with an impressive 7 goals and 4 assists in 14 appearances, showing his overall influence in the competition.

Casemiro also features after delivering solid performances across the campaign.
The Brazilian finishes with 2 goals and 2 assists in 13 games, and though he too struggled to impose himself in the final, his experience and contribution during the knockout stages have clearly been noticed.
With the season now almost over, United’s focus turns to a critical summer.
One that could define the club’s direction under INEOS and the leadership of Ruben Amorim, if he is to remain in charge.
