Report: Liverpool contact 'one of the best strikers' about move to Anfield, £85m gets deal done

Liverpool have reportedly approached in-demand Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike over a potential move this summer.

French outlet RMC Sport reports that the Reds are among several clubs that have contacted the 22-year-old to gauge interest in a transfer. He has an agreement with Frankfurt for an exit to occur should all parties receive a suitable offer for the Frenchman.

Liverpool head into the summer transfer window looking to bolster Arne Slot's attack despite getting Mohamed Salah to pen a new deal. Darwin Nunez's future is in major doubt amid links to the Saudi Pro League and Serie A giants Napoli.

Liverpool aren't alone in their interest in Ekitike; Chelsea are also targeting the five-cap France U21 international while Arsenal are in the picture. He joined Frankfurt from PSG last summer for around £25m, and he's quickly become one of the Bundesliga's top-scoring forwards.

Frankfurt are thought to be demanding £70-85m (€80-100m) to part with Ekitike, with former club Paris Saint-Germain receiving 20% of a potential sale. He appears to be on Slot's shortlist of strikers to replace Nunez, whose days at Anfield look numbered.

Liverpool transfer chiefs look to be putting a heavy focus on the Bundesliga in terms of strengthening the squad. Ben Mattinson thinks Ekitike isn't just "one of Germany's best strikers, but across Europe".

Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong is close to completing a £30m move and replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold. Fabrizio Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that the club is prepared to pay a "significant fee" in a race with Bayern Munich for Florian Wirtz, whose parents they met.

RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko appears to be another option for the Reds amid reports suggesting he "wants to join" Slot's team. The groundwork has been done for a deal for the Slovenian, which could have implications on a move for Ekitike.

The Frenchman could be the latest Frankfurt star to arrive in the Premier League following Omar Marmoush's move to Manchester City in January. He possesses a different profile to Sesko, who is more of a marksman, perhaps more akin to Newcastle United's Alexander Isak, who has ripped it up in England and is admired at Anfield.
