Viktor Gyokeres teammate makes telling comment as transfer 'agreed' for Man United target

Viktor Gyokeres

Viktor Gyokeres' future remains up in the air

Viktor Gyokeres remains the subject of speculation as Sporting Clube de Portugal wrap up their season this weekend.

The Swede could play his final game in Sporting colours in Sunday's Portuguese Cup final against Benfica. Gyokeres helped Sporting retain their Liga Betclic title for a second successive season last weekend.

Manchester United and Arsenal are both thought to be admirers of Gyokeres, but a reunion with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford could now be more difficult after United missed out on Champions League football following their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final.

While his Sporting teammates would be gutted to see him leave, Eduardo Quaresma was the latest player to inevitably be asked about the prolific goalscorer.

Speaking to Radio Nascenca, he said: "Gyokeres? There are very few strikers like him," before joking: "I'm tired of Viktor, he's very good, he has so many shirts to sign - fans ask me: 'Call Viktor'.

"I get to the dressing room, I can't look at him anymore. He's a top player."

So far, Gyokeres has remained tight-lipped about his future.

When quizzed about whether he'd be staying in Lisbon, he told SIC Noticias: "We'll see. It's the future.

"Football is like that, you never know what's going to happen. As we saw this season, you never know what's going to happen. And it's the same thing now. We'll see what the future holds."

A gentleman's agreement exists between Gyokeres and the Portuguese club, allowing him to depart this summer for a fee ranging from £55m to £60m - significantly less than his £84.3m (€100m) release clause.

It was reported by Portuguese media earlier this week that Gyokeres Arsenal-bound, with a £58.9m agreement reached between Sporting and the Gunners.
