Five-star international prospect Dame Sarr commits to Duke

Nearly a week after Dame Sarr was expected to announce a commitment to Kansas, it's the Duke Blue Devils who have completed a rare recruiting comeback to land the five-star international.

The 6-foot-7, 190-pound Italian wing is one of the top international recruits this cycle with real NBA potential who was nearly wrapped up to the Jayhawks a week ago before Duke made a push and flipped this recruitment on its head in the 11th hour.

By adding Sarr, Duke has addressed a big area for need for their roster next season as the outlook of Cedric Coward's ultimate destination is looking more and more like it will be in the NBA.

Sarr is a big, long and athletic wing who is also capable of playing at the two with his ability to make shots, score off the dribble and create for himself and others out of ball-screens.

He's a tremendous talent who has been building a strong resume to be considered one of the top prospects in his class. Playing with Italy U18 last summer, Sarr led his team in scoring (13.4) and assists (4.7) per game while finishing second in rebounds (6.3).

This year, Sarr played with FC Barcelona and had some very promising moments in the Euroleague -- the second-best league in the world behind the NBA -- before leaving the team earlier this spring to play in the Nike Hoops Summit. At the event in Portland featuring many of the top 2025 prospects from the United States against a world team, Sarr led the world team in scoring with 17 points and earned mostly rave reviews for his play in the game and the week of preceding practices.

With Sarr coming in, he is now expected to join what will be another big and long Duke lineup with Caleb Foster, Sarr, Isaiah Evans, Cameron Boozer and Patrick Ngongba/Maliq Brown.

"He's super versatile," a college coach who watched him last summer in Finland told 247Sports. "He's really athletic, a long and rangy type. He can play like one through three and is mostly a driver/finisher type guy and is a really fluid mover."

Sarr, who will soon turn 19 this June, projects to be a five-star recruit and a potential first rounder in the 2026 NBA Draft.

He joins another loaded Duke class with Cameron Boozer, Nikolas Khamenia and Cayden Boozer.
