_**For those hoping the 49ers bounce back from a last-place finish in 2024, this playoff-prediction piece won't give you much hope.**_
The San Francisco 49ers have a good history of bouncing back from disappointment under head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch.
2024's 6-11 record and last-place finish within the NFC West isn't too far unlike the debacle that was the injury-plagued 2020 campaign. And yet that disappointment led to the Niners reaching three consecutive NFC Championship games and winning one of them.
So, by that account, San Francisco should be poised for another run at playoff contention despite a [flurry of roster changes](https://ninernoise.com/49ers-free-agency-tracker-2025-latest-signings-departures-and-updates-01jnrt9n3t8n) during the offseason, right?
According to one playoff-prediction piece from our FanSided colleagues over at NFL Spin Zone, not exactly.
49ers predicted to miss playoffs in recent NFC postseason prediction
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Lou Scataglia of NFL Spin Zone dove into a prediction of all [seven teams who reach the postseason](https://nflspinzone.com/predicting-the-7-nfc-playoff-teams-for-the-2025-nfl-season) this year from the NFC.
You'll notice one team glaringly absent from the seeding:
1. Washington Commanders
2. Detroit Lions
3. Los Angeles Rams
4. Atlanta Falcons
5. Philadelphia Eagles
6. Green Bay Packers
7. Arizona Cardinals
No 49ers on this list.
Instead, L.A. secures the NFC West crown in this prediction, while the upward-trending Cards lock in a Wild Card spot.
That leaves both the Niners and Seattle Seahawks desperately trying to stave off a last-place finish within the division
Arizona might be something of a shocker, although a revamped defense could make this prediction a bit more of a likelihood than a far-off remote hope no one saw coming. That said, San Francisco's own defensive overhaul has to be given credit, too, but it doesn't appear as if those efforts were enough to warrant consideration on this list.
Thankfully, as fans know too well, most predictions wind up being way off.
So, perhaps it's better the 49ers were omitted from this list.
