Exclusive: Man Utd latest stance on Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo and Ruben Amorim after Europa League final defeat

The futures of several Manchester United players are up in the air right now after the devastating 1-0 Europa League final defeat.

It was the lowest night the club have experienced in a long, long time, being defeated in a European final by Tottenham, with the performance disappointing all round.

Manchester United went into the game as underdogs, yet during the game it was Ruben Amorim’s side who were the superior side, despite failing to win.

The loss came because United had key players underperforming all at once which made picking up all three points nearly impossible. MUTV’s Sammy McIlroy picked out Bruno Fernandes for his unusually poor performance, as the captain was a shadow of himself.

While the players let United down, Amorim also takes a chunk of the blame for several major mistakes which proved to be costly.

Following the defeat, there were several talking points, such as Alejandro Garnacho’s future at United. While Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Amorim and Kobbie Mainoo were also hot topics.

Latest on Bruno Fernandes’ future at Manchester United

Fernandes was visibly upset having been defeated in a second Europa League final while wearing the United captain’s armband. Following this, Fernandes told Ineos that if they want to sell him he will leave, as Sky Sports shared on Thursday morning.

"If the club thinks its time to leave… that is what it is"

However, now United in Focus have spoken with transfer expert Graeme Bailey, explaining the situation around Fernandes.

“With Bruno, the understanding is that even as of last night, I am told, he accepts that the club can’t sell him, no matter the offers that come in for him.

“The Saudis are pushing really hard, and there is a big offer on the table, with Ronaldo recommending him, and they will try this summer.

“However, even if Bruno was open to the Saudi move, I am told there is just absolutely no way that United can contemplate letting him out.”

Selling Fernandes is a no go for United, he is the heart of the club right now and without him this season, you dread to think what may have happened. Fernandes reportedly has an offer of £195m over three seasons, but to United he is priceless.

Will Ruben Amorim remain Manchester United’s head coach?

Amorim is in a tough situation at United, with his six months at the club among the worst ever seen at United.

This has raised speculation over his future, with Amorim offering to leave without compensation if the club wanted him to; however, while speaking with United in Focus, Bailey explained this is unlikely.

“Amorim’s not going anywhere. I don’t think he is massively happy at the moment, and he shouldn’t be; he wants and needs the club to back him.

“There are other clubs, such as Bayer Leverkusen, keeping an eye on the situation, so it’s an interesting scenario, and we will see in the coming weeks if Delap arrives, who won the battle of striker suggestions. But yeah, he’s not in any danger.”

Fernandes and Luke Shaw have both backed Amorim to improve, and it looks like the 40-year-old will get this opportunity.

Kobbie Mainoo’s future is not guaranteed.

Amorim gave Mainoo just seven minutes in the final, which is a drastic decrease from May 2024, when he was the star of the show in the FA Cup final.

Mainoo has struggled this season with injuries and fitness impacting his development slightly. Now, Bailey has told United in Focus the latest around Mainoo’s futures.

“With Kobbie Mainoo, there are still talks over his new deal, and his people are mystified where it is. This should become clear in the coming weeks, but if it is not sorted, he could go, he really could if the contract isn’t sorted out.”

Mainoo has struggled to find his place in Amorim’s team and will hope to drastically improve in the coming months and earn that new contract; otherwise, it would be a sale that may leave the fanbase in uproar.
