Newcastle United could be set to spend this summer.
Having failed to sign players over the last few transfer windows, Newcastle United appear to be in a healthy financial position once more.
Clearly, much will depend on whether Eddie Howe’s side reach the Champions League again or not. Still, Newcastle insiders think they can sign players this summer, which is a major shift in approach from what happened in 2024.
Indeed, Newcastle didn’t sign players so they would keep on the right side of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Seemingly on a sounder footing now, the Newcastle United manager made some interesting comments recently. Howe confirmed Newcastle could break their transfer record this summer, should the right deal present itself.

What insiders are saying after Eddie Howe claims Newcastle United could break their transfer record
According to iNews, the idea of the club breaking their transfer record is a “definite possibility” this summer.
The report does add that sources close to the club are briefing that the focus this summer won’t be on prices, rather the type of players that become available.
That would appear to echo what Howe said. If the PIF era at Newcastle has proven anything, it’s that they won’t spend simply for the sake of it.

Alexander Isak £63million

Newcastle United’s most expensive signings of all time
Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon, Joelinton, Harvey Barnes and Sven Botman have all arrived for upwards of £40million over the years, too.
Newcastle would have to spend more than £63million to break their record. The prospect of signing a player for more than that is seriously exciting, while the work the recruitment staff have done in recent seasons should afford them the trust to get the decision right.
