Mohamed Salah has given a shoutout to Ange Postecoglou for living up to his promise after the Australian delivered Tottenham Hotspur their first trophy since 2008 at Bilbao on Wednesday.
When Postecoglou double downed on his comments about always winning trophies in his second season, many, including Spurs fans, felt that the Australian was tempting his fate.
Those comments were used by the media to take potshots at the 59-year-old over recent months as Tottenham’s form continued to suffer, so much so that Postecoglou hit back at the media for mocking his comments.
However, in the end, it is the Australian who has had the last laugh, with his comments going down in history as one of the most iconic lines ever uttered by a football manager.

Postecoglou clarifies his second-season trophy comments
The Tottenham head coach discussed his comments after his side secured the big prize in Bilbo, insisting that he was not boasting about his record.
Ange Postecoglou remarked that he fully believed Spurs would be able to achieve something special this season and was prepared to take the criticism if the club failed to achieve their objective.
When asked about his second-season trophy comments, Postecoglou said (via Fox Sports): “Let me clarify, I wasn’t boasting. I just had something inside me: we needed to win. People have taken shots at the club, and I have felt at times we haven’t defended ourselves as strongly as we should.
“(It was) just me making a declaration and I believed it. I had this thing inside me more than anything else. I know our league form has been unacceptable, but coming third was not going to change this football club, winning a trophy would, that was my ambition and I was prepared to wear it if it did not happen. People kept reminding me of it because we were getting closer but I’m happy with that.”
