Wannabee Hammers striker can sparkle on the big stage

There’s a situation vacant or two in West Hams front line as of next month: [No Ings,](https://www.claretandhugh.info/danny-ings-a-potential-comeback-story/) No Ferguson and likely no Antonio either. So with just Niclas Fullkrug leading the line, the Irons are desperate to bolster the numbers in the goal scoring department. A paltry 43 goals in the Premier League is a dismal return for the season.

The forthcoming internationals next month can be a curse or a blessing: For fringe and aspirational players hoping to make a name for themselves there is every opportunity to stand out. Callum Marshall is definitely one who is desperate to impress his Hammers manager after a season-long loan at third tier Huddersfield.

Marshall’s loan is ended now, and he has just been called up into the full Northern Ireland squad for their friendly internationals in June against Denmark and Iceland. At just twenty, these will be his tenth and eleventh internationals and he’s already come close to scoring for his country, a goal being ruled out by VAR on his debut.

The games will be televised so Marshall will have every opportunity to stake a claim to be in Potter’s squad come August: The jury is out as to whether he’ll be loaned out again but Huddersfield have already staked their claim having awarded him their Player of the Season award.

Marshall himself has already stated his sole desire is to make it into the West Ham senior squad. Looking forward to cheering him on in June. Just what the Hammers need right now.
