Saquon Issues Stunning Eagles All-Time Ranking Claim

The 2024 Philadelphia Eagles were dominant. No question about it.

Winning the NFC East with a 14-3 record and winning each playoff game by at least six points on the way to a blowout Super Bowl victory is certainly worthy of supreme - even historic - acclaim.

But how dominant? Is this team in consideration to be the best in NFL history?

The Eagles' star running back Saquon Barkley has his answer.

"I firmly believe - when you look at our team that we had last year - I think we're a top-5 team of all time," Barkley claimed on his teammates Reed Blankenship and Cooper DeJean's podcast, Exciting Mics.

"Like, if you really look at the season outside of the first four games .. How dominant you guys were on defense and how dominant we were on offense and special teams, people don't realize how great of a team that actually was."

Barkley continued about how the Week 5 bye week was a turning point in the season. Philadelphia had a 2-2 record at that point following close losses to the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"I like that we all just bought in," Barkley said. "You hear, like, the outside noise and expectation ... we didn't care how it looked. The only thing we cared about was winning football games."

And win they did. Philadelphia went on a 10-game winning streak before dropping their third game to the Washington Commanders in Week 16.

Philly would go on to win its next six after that - including a 55-23 revenge game over the Commanders in the conference championship - en route to the franchise's second Super Bowl win.

Barkley, fresh off just his first season in Philadelphia, raises a strong argument about the Eagles' place amongst the NFL's best ever.

But among the likes of Marino's undefeated Dolphins? Brady's 7-time-champion Patriots? The throwback Bears, Steelers, 49ers or Cowboys teams? Even the three-times-in-five-years champs Kansas City Chiefs?

Saquon's Eagles face a tough comparison in that all-time greatness.

"When you have the talent, skill that we have in our team, mixed with the coaches, and we all play together like how we played, teams really stood no chance," Barkley added about last season's run.

Philly's next quest is to live up to this standard of excellence and establish what could be a dynasty - and stronger "G.O.A.T" argument - with a Super Bowl title defense.
