The Indianapolis Colts announced Wednesday evening that longtime team owner, Jim Irsay, had passed away in his sleep at the age of 65.
In the hours since the announcement, tributes and condolences have poured into Indianapolis from around the NFL. Here in Indy, the somber mood is palpable, which stands as a testament to the impact Irsay had on the city, and Colts fans everywhere. There’s no denying that Irsay leaves behind a layered legacy; no NFL owner was ever as open with their struggles, as well as their humanity, as Irsay was. There were also times towards the end of his stewardship where things seemed a bit more hectic and unpredictable than they should have been. Still, Irsay loved his team with every fiber of his being, and he truly cared about the players that put on the Horseshoe, and the city the team called home. His generosity was well known around Indy, as was his fierce desire to see the Colts win. While the Colts organization, the city of Indianapolis, and the NFL have lost one of their truly unique figures, his legacy will live on for years to come.
During the Thursday edition of The Ride With JMV, one of the men that knew Irsay best, former NFL coach and current Colts Radio analyst Rick Venturi joined the show, and reflected upon Irsay’s passing, the long relationship he had with him, and the legacy he is leaving behind. Listen to that conversation down below and tune into The Ride With JMV weekdays from 3-6pm on 93.5/107.5 The Fan.
