Liverpool-bound Giorgi Mamardashvili has answered questions about his move to Anfield and a possible loan move away from the club this season.
Liverpool signed the Georgian shot stopper last summer for €30 million after his impressive showing for Valencia and the Georgian national team at the Euros.
However, the club allowed him to spend the entire season on loan at the Mestalla Stadium, and he made 33 league appearances for Valencia.
He will now officially complete his move from Valencia to Liverpool this summer, potentially joining Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher as Arne Slot’s senior team options.
Mamardashvili’s imminent arrival means that the goalkeeping department will be well-stocked, resulting in a likely scenario where one person has to leave.
At the moment, Alisson is Slot’s undisputed No. 1, making the summer exit of Kelleher most likely. The Irishman is attracting interest from several clubs, and Liverpool are thought to be open to cashing in on him, given that he has one year left on his current deal.
That means that Mamardashvili will most likely deputise Alisson. There were earlier suggestions that he would be going out on another loan in the summer, but the 24-year-old has now ruled out that possibility, while explaining what Liverpool’s plans are for him.
“I’m not considering another loan move,” Mamardashvili told Geo Team.
“I will spend next season at Liverpool and give my all, just like I did at Valencia. I’ll work hard every single day, and training with Alisson will help me.
“The main thing is patience, training and hard work, and everything else will come by itself.
“I think it will be good – training with [Alisson] will help me grow too, and I will gain a lot of experience with him.”
Mamardashvili also confirmed Liverpool have been in constant contact with him since signing he joined, while adding that the Reds are counting on him for the future.
“They are looking at me as the Liverpool goalkeeper for the next ten years,” he added.
“Yes, they have even visited several times – we spoke to Liverpool, and they give you a lot of attention.”
