It certainly will not have felt like it when the final whistle sounded at San Mames Stadium and their misery was sealed.

It will not have felt like it this morning either as Manchester United fans contemplate where their club, English football’s lost behemoth, go from here. And it probably will not feel like it next week, or the week after that. Soreness, after all, takes time to subside.
