Zach Lowe Urges Suns to Trade Kevin Durant to Surprise West Team

The Phoenix Suns had a disappointing campaign in 2024-25, finishing 11th in the Western Conference. They amassed a 36-46 record this term.

The Suns are looking to revamp their side for the next season. Kevin Durant's future is one of the first ones for them to sort out.

Durant, at 36-years-old, played 62 games this season. He averaged 26.6 points, six rebounds, and 4.2 assists.

He remains an elite player, but Zach Lowe has suggested the idea that the Suns use him to get Domantas Sabonis on a trade.

However, Durant's willingness to play for the Sacramento Kings is questionable. Lowe jokingly claimed that the two-time NBA champion might threaten to retire if he is traded to the Kings.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Zach Lowe Show, he said, "Who says no, Kevin Durant for Domantas Sabonis?"

He added, "Durant would threaten to retire, but I could see the Suns fans being like, well, that sucks. We traded 19 million first-round picks, Bridges, and Johnson for Durant. Cool, you're not getting that back. You have no center of any consequence. You hated every center you had on the team."

KD has played for teams like the OKC Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets, and now the Phoenix Suns.

His willingness to play out of Sacramento is doubtful. Apart from that, the Kings are not a serious contender in the Western Conference despite having a respectable side.

ESPN, though, has reported that the Suns might look to part ways with the veterans.

That said, nothing is written in stone. Insider Jake Fischer has claimed that Durant's return to the Suns can't be ruled out.

He wrote, It has been widely anticipated that Durant, who turns 37 in September, will be back on the trade market this summer in the wake of the Suns' myriad trade explorations involving No. 35 leading up to February's in-season trade deadline. A return to the desert next season, though, has not been fully ruled out.
