The NFC East is the oldest division in sports. It's also the most dominant over the NFL's 100-year history.
The Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Commanders have combined for the most Super Bowl wins of any division in the sport. While the last decade has been uneven for the group, the 2024 season saw a return to dominance for the group.
Of the conference championship game teams, the East sent two teams to the final four showdown, and house the defending Super Bowl champion.
Despite the success from the Eagles, not everyone is impressed with the division.
Pro Football Focus graded the NFC East just fifth in the league behind divisions like the AFC North, NFC North, and AFC West.
"The NFC East sent both representatives to the NFC championship game last January, but those two teams — the Eagles and Commanders — are carrying most of the weight for the division as a whole," PFF wrote. "Philadelphia lost key talent in free agency, but reloaded effectively enough to remain one of the favorites to return to the Super Bowl in 2025."
This ranking is preposterous. No division had two teams in the conference championship game, and no group has won more collective Super Bowls. For the division to hit a poorer grade because the worst team, the Giants, struggled just as much as the Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland Browns, or Chicago Bears is ridiculous.
And it shows that while the league is always better when the NFC East is good, not everyone wants to hear about them.
